The Hemel en Aarde and surrounding areas have become one of the most popular tourist destinations in SA, filled with plenty of adventurous activities, wine farm experiences, fine dining and casual dining restaurants and beautiful beaches to enjoy! This Summer, we are finally free from strict Covid restrictions while still adhering to safety regulations.
Here are six unique places to enjoy while on holiday in the Overberg area:
Hike your way through the Hemel en Aarde Wineries with Glamtrails
This tour operator offers a range of hiking trails that let you explore the wine farms in the Hemel en Aarde Wine Valley and the Old and New Harbours in Hermanus. The hiking trails are ranked as ‘Tiring’ and ‘An Easy Stroll’, covering between 2km and 7km each. A crowd favourite is the Fernkloof to Bouchard Finlayson trail, where you can enjoy a wine tasting at Hamilton Russel and food and wine pairing at Bouchard Finlayson.
Spark your creativity at Bosman Hermanus
Bosman Family Vineyards launched a series of ‘inspired living workshops’ in 2022. On November 3rd, you can sign up to join in on a cooking demonstration by Hermanus’s “Queen of Vegan” Emilia Knight. Then, kick off your Christmas vacation with a Christmas “table-scaping” workshop and wreath-making by event specialist and florist Bernice Baumgarten on December 1st.
Costs to attend the events vary between R600 and R650pp each

Zoom down a dune at full speed with Percy Tours’ Sandboarding adventure in Hermanus. There are two dunes within easy reach of Hermanus. One is a gentle slope of about 100 metres that runs into the sea. The other runs at about 45 to 60 degrees for 300 to 400 metres!
All your sandboarding equipment, including an instructor, is supplied to ensure you master your sandboarding skills. Sandboarding is only done during the hot summer months (October to March), as we need the hot sun to dry out the sand.
