When visiting Stonehaven farm, we offer plenty of outdoor sunny day activities such as kayaking, hiking and swimming in our dam. But just because the weather forecast for your stay with us is a little chilly, it does not mean there’s still plenty to enjoy!
Here is our cold weather to-do list, with variety for the whole family.
1. Kolkol Wood-Fired Hot tubs
Every Eco-cabin at Stonehaven comes with their very own KolKol wood fired hot tub. These magnificent environmentally friendly hot tubs are wood-fired and can fit a group of 4-6 adults. The cold weather is not a concern when our hot tubs reach up to 38 degrees celsius! The Kolkol Wood-Fired Hot Tubs tubs are a perfectly blissful way to enjoy sundowners or a nightcap with friends and family members, or of course, on your romantic getaway!
2. Movie Night
There is nothing better than a movie night when it is raining cats and dogs, and you can enjoy warm treats like buttery popcorn and hot chocolate. The Whale Coast Theatre in Hermanus has two modern cinemas that show a selection of the latest blockbuster movies and live entertainment! The theatre is just a short drive away from Stonehaven farm and offers plenty of film choices for the whole family. Otherwise, if you are more interested in a Netflix & Chill in your very own Eco Cabin. We have a very strong WiFi system that will meet your expectations.
3. Explore Our Restaurants Nearby
Before or after your movie, why not try out some of the area’s lovely eateries and dining establishments. The area has a vast selection of restaurants depending on the cuisine, restaurant style, and price point that suits you. We guarantee that even in the cold weather, the views of the area are immaculate! We have compiled a list of our favourites here.
4. Art Galleries
For those who appreciate the finer things, why not visit a couple of art galleries in Hermanus? If you find yourself in the area over the weekend, we recommend taking part in the Art Galleries walk-about on the first Friday of every month (except June, July & August).
There are more than 20 diverse galleries are open to the public and are one way of celebrating the status of Hermanus as one of the top destinations for art in South Africa – an easy Art Walk through Hermanus Old Town. With several artist studios and attentive gallery owners, this walk offers you the opportunity to engage with the locals and explore the town on foot, discovering hidden gems along the way. 5. Massages or Spa Treatment
In the mood to get pampered? Book one of our massage therapists at Stonehaven farm to give you the relaxing treatment you deserve. If you want the whole spa experience, why not look at some of the well-known spas in the area? We recommend the Arabella Hotel and Spa, located on the Hemel en Aarde wine route, for a day of beauty treatments and healing therapies.
6. Visit The Astronomy Centre
Hermanus Astronomy Centre and Magnetic Observatory is a fascinating place! It is one of only thirteen telescopes on the planet, permanently looking at the sun 24hrs/365days. The observatory also calibrates ALL of South Africa’s components for planes, ships, helicopters etc. An incredible opportunity to learn more about the cosmos. It will be an outing your children (and you) will never forget!
7. Wine Tours
Of course, the Hemel en Aarde Valley is famously known for its unique wines and beautiful wine farms. So why not take part in a Wine Tour that takes you to 21 wineries, five fabulous restaurants and allows you to sample over 120 award-winning wines? Yup, you do not want to be the designated driver for this excursion.
